Family collaborates with SLP to prepare foods and drinks with various textures and consistencies in preparation for the assessment
SLP will assess the swallow of the patient or child with the different consistencies of food and drink
Oral strength and coordination, bolus (food) management, and lingual control are also assessed
Safety and comfort are the priority of a swallow assessment and can help determine the presence of aspiration, silent aspiration, and food aversions for both young children and older adults
